Quick Seattle Trip

After we checked into our hotel we headed to the mall for
lunch at Dukes Chowder House. Everything we tried at Dukes
was delicious. Above is Dukes Famous Bloody Mary.
Local Washington Steamers.
One of their small bite appetizers. Topless Wild Alaskan Salmon. This
was my favorite. The goat cheese and pesto was another good
appetizer.
Some of the best clam chowder I've had. Better then Ivar's!

A big bowl of Pho at Cafe Pho. Very good. The Westfield Southcenter
Mall has excellent eating.

A little rain to start the day.
 Flowers at the market.

Yum, fresh seafood. We bought Dad some shrimp here.
DeLaurenti, our favorite store in Seattle. I think we spent about
70 bucks on meats and cheeses. We  found another favorite
cheese this trip. Its Leonora, a Spanish goat cheese with a hint
of lemon. Leonora is tangy and semi-soft, but rather pricey. I think its
around $28 a pound. I found a cheese I don't like too....Morbier. It
tastes like funky Swiss cheese, not for me.
 The rain quit!

The nasty gum wall. I may get a puzzle made out of this picture.

Fried clams from Ivar's take out window. Crunchy, tender and tasty.

Beecher's Mac and Cheese. So rich, creamy and good.
The new Ferris wheel. It's huge! Dawn and Yosh went on it while Michael
and I hit up the arcade.

Cupcake Royale. Super good, homemade ice cream about a block
away from pikes market. They have tasty cupcakes too.

This was a spur of the moment trip to Seattle. With Hilton honors points I was able to get a couple
nights at the Double Tree for almost nothing, so we decided to run out over Memorial day. If you're near Dukes Chowder House I would really recommend it. I think it's a step above Ivar's. I've had clam chowder at Dukes, Ivar's and Pike Place Chowder in Seattle. Dukes is the best. They have a really good happy hour from 3-6 and 9 to close too. Speaking of happy hours, Ivar's Acres of Clams has a good one too in their Clam Digger Lounge. I think its from 3 to close daily.  Beecher's Handmade Cheeses at the top of the market is worth hitting. The mac and cheese is unreal. I bought a container of cheese curds too. They were squeaky good. If you sit there to eat you can watch them making cheese. There's just so much to do at Pikes Market that we never seem to get everywhere we want. We did discover another gem on the way to Penzeys spices. Cupcake Royale. The ice cream was some of the best I've had. I had a salted caramel and Dawn had fresh banana. Its worth looking for. All in all a great, quick trip. We all love Seattle.

A few links

Piroshky Piroshky

Tasty Snacks! I had the beef and cheese, and Dawn had a Moscow Roll.
The Moscow roll is cream of wheat and bavarian cream blended together.
Dawn didn't care for it but Yosh and I liked it.

Yosh had the Cream Cheese Vatrushka. She said it was really good.
 Ready for the oven.

A nice selection. If you look on the very bottom of the picture you'll
see some bread stick looking things. I believe they were called puff bread.
If you like rosettes you will love them. They taste just like a long rosette.

Piroshky Piroshky is a Russian bakery in Pikes Market, Seattle. We walk by the place every time we're at pikes market but have never tried it due to the long lines. This time we walked by early and there was no line so we ordered up. They were definitely not what I was expecting. I thought the piroshky was a filling wrapped by a heavy, doughy crust. What they are actually like are stuffed croissants. The filling in mine was tasty, and the outside tender and flaky. Surprisingly good. They have a nice selection too. If the line is within reason we will definitely be back.

Our Yard

What a difference a month makes
I built a couple raised beds this year. So far the onions, tomatoes, corn,
peppers, carrots and spinach are doing good. Hopefully everything
keeps growing. Our tomatoes didn't do very good last year.
 Herb garden on the deck.
After a couple years i finally finished our Griz benches.

All the yard work is starting to pay off. The yard looks great, and we should have some nice vegetables pretty soon. Now if i can just find someone to water everything while we're on vacation. Any volunteers?

UPDATE..
Such a sad sight...Hail wiped my garden out. I almost felt
like crying. The water was ankle deep in my backyard.
