Quick Minnesota Trip

We're all big fans of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern. He's from
Minnesota and has had a couple of episodes on the state. One of the
restaurants was Betty's Pies. It's right outside Two Harbors so
we thought we'd give it a try. I had the hot beef sandwich. It was good,
typical diner food but well done. I would say the breakfast was just
average. They are famous for their pies though and they didn't
disappoint. Mine was Butterfingers pie. A little on the sweet side
for me, but still tasty. As you can see, Anders wasn't impressed.

Another Andrew Zimmern stop was Russ Kendall's Smokehouse
in Knife River. We hit a few smokehouses while we were there,
but I think this was the best.  Lou's in Two Harbors is good too,
but I think Kendall's is my favorite. Very good smoked fish out there.

Anders and I at Lacy and Jeff's house.
Do North Pizza in Two Harbors. Awesome pizza
that reminded me of Howards.

Eating at Northern Waters Smokehaus in Duluth.
The show Diners Drive-ins and Dives has been
here.

I had the Bahn Faux Me. Tasty!

Their smoked fish selection. The salmon was great.
On the right are a few of the things i brought home.

Avery and the lighthouse in Two Harbors

 Walleye sandwich at Dixie's

Even though the water was freezing I had to
be able to say I've been in Lake Superior.

Great Lakes Candy Kitchen in Knife River. Dawn's new favorite
candy store. Killer caramels.

Lacy and Anders at Burlington Bay Beach

Lacy needed a hand getting the kids out to Two Harbors to meet up with Jeff so I drove them out. The kids were surprisingly good and I ended up having great time. We checked out some good restaurants, looked for Lake Superior Agates and played tourist for a bit. Lacy and Jeff's new house is nice. I really liked the town of Two Harbors. It's a neat little town right on the shore of Lake Superior. It has kind of a West Glacier feel to it.  I'm already missing Anders and Avery. Hopefully we can get out there for a vacation in the next year or two. All in all a nice little trip. I brought home lots of smoked fish and cheese, and even got to check out The Mall of America on the way home.
